We have nocked down to three first Bobcat A300 my dream but very $$$. 2 is a CAT 252 or 262. 3 is a case 430. Nomatter what we get it will have to have a full cab pilot controls and heat. We will be useing it for Hardscaping and snowremoval. Large yard install a dozer to grade and skid steer to power rake it and pick up spoils. Commercial floor like 10,000 sq ft a dozer with a simple laser set up to push the material around and get it with in a couple inches of grade. Then the skid steer with laser best to finish with in .25 on inch. It’s that good.
I always thought that a grader attachment like the one from Van Boh would be money better spent for driveways and grading. I thought that you could utilize it more. Unless you needed a mini dozer in which case the 6 way would probably do better. I could have picked one up a Van Boh here for 4K nearly brand new. Waited one day and it was gone. Use pallet forks on the loader to pluck out root balls then use the bucket to pile them up. Before I got my 4x4 tractor (new Holland TC33D) and the skid steer (New Holland LS180), I used my backhoe to gig out the root balls, which works ok. I built a type of grate or multi-tined attachment that bolts to the bottom of the skid steer or backhoe .
If you need to place a block under the balde to get it at the "right" angle, then either something is wrong with the dozer, or the person isn't proficient in grading/ dozer work. Also, backdragging makes a job look cheap. A grade looks much better when graded forward. Some people just cannot work a dozer for final grade work.
One thing to watch out for is switching back and forth between the high and low sulfur fuels. I don't know how much it affects equipment like skidsteers and tractors, but my father used to run off-road fuel in his 1-ton truck. I don't even know how you can make a profit with just a skid steer period. The rental shops rent them so cheap anybody can rent one and think they are saving money. A wheeled skid really can't go anywhere where the ground is really rough or steep. The tracked skid steers can go places a wheeled skid can't. Even wheel skid steers are maintenance .
