Have had a couple issues come up and wanted some opinions. 1. Drive chains had some play in them I adjusted but couldn't get them to 1/4" play per service manual specs. about 1.5" play after adjustment. Should I be concerned? 2. When first started I raise boom and stop, boom lowers slowly on its own with no controls being touched. So I bought a 2001 new holland LS180 in Jan of 2012 and the machine has been good for me, for what I do. i don't put a lot of hours a year on a machine.general uses for me are some dirt work and grading of stone driveway, etc, but mostly for snow removal and also for moving heavy crates of glass, some weighting 2000lbs when needed.

Stopped at the newholland dealer yesterday and they had the LS185 in stock. I really liked it. Anybody have one? They guy told me that this model is perfect for snowplowing and landscaping and grading. Any feedback on them. I really want to make a purchase on a skid steer this spring. I also like the john deeres but havent looked into them .

Deere seems to have a little more lifting compacity than the new holland, but overall New Hollands are easy to service, very agile, you can SEE out of the cab, and the controls are very smooth NOT jumpy. I've owned a LS170 since 2000. I invite you to compare visibility of the two machines. And right up, let me tell you what NH will say. They'll tell you that you can get 180 degree visibility, which you can, but 180 is NOT the extent of a jobsite. Sometimes you need to look down, to see where your tires are rolling. It's hard to beat a New Holland for precision and detail work. I'm glad I purchased the 185 when I did because I got a screamin deal. Doing the little bit of plowing that I've done has paid for the machine for the next 6 months. We've had an '04 since new, now it's got over 8000 hours. They are a really good machine, if you live where it's cold, make sure you get #1 fuel in it as soon as the weather changes, or the little inline filter will gell.
