Looking to swap out my engine on my New Holland LX665. Can I use a Kabota engine to swap in there. The engine is toast and I'm having a hard time finding a New Holland engine and was hoping a different engine would do the job. Does anyone know if it is possible to swap out the Yanmar with the Perkins or Kubota the New Holland L555 uses? If so, what is different? It's not the shaft size on the engine. It's the adapter between the HF engine and the shredder I'm wondering about. If the new HF engines have a 1" shaft, I won't need any adapter.. I'm about ready to buy a New Holland skid steer L185 maybe L180. The one I think i want has under two-hundred hours and is a 2006 model 185 with cab/heat, foot (standard ) controls, 2 speed, also hy flow hydraulics and was farmer . I priced a crank form the New Holland dealer and it was over 00. Even apart from the crank, the engine would need to be re-bored so I'm convinced I'm better off looking at an alternative. I have found that a Perkins 404D-22 is almost the same. Just picked up a B3.3 for the same swap into L185 new Holland. The Iveco/Cummins 3 cylinder they came with no longer produced and impossible to find enough parts in the world to rebuild one with hole in block.
With what a new one costs, it generally wouldn't hurt to replace the engine, or rebuild it. If you are not experienced enough to undertake this endeavor, extract it and take to a reputable rebuilder.
